The adult size of a Pomsky varies greatly and many factors come into play.
First, we find Pomskies with several breeds present in their DNA, not just Huskies and Pomeranians.
Assuming that your Pomsky is a 50/50 crossbreed, meaning it's a first-generation Pomsky with 50% Husky and 50% Pomeranian DNA, then you can expect your adult Pomsky to measure approximately 25 to 40cm in height and weigh between 9 and 14kg.
Height of the Pomsky
When we talk about the size of a Pomsky, we calculate the height at the withers, which is the height from the ground to the shoulders (where the neck meets the spine). The height at the withers is generally between 25 and 40 cm for a first-generation Pomsky. However, the height at the withers greatly depends on the size of the parents selected for breeding.
Indeed, a good selection would involve breeding a small-sized Husky and a small-sized Pomeranian.
Weight of a Pomsky
The adult weight of a Pomsky usually ranges between 9 and 14 kg, but again, it depends on the weight of the parents and the selection made by the breeder. A female Siberian Husky normally weighs between 15 and 23 kg. A Pomeranian Spitz, on the other hand, weighs between 1.3 and 3 kg. This mix gives us an average weight of 9 to 14 kg.
We cannot guarantee the size of a Pomsky; as mentioned before, it depends on the size of the parents and the breeds crossed. Thus, it is entirely possible for your Pomsky to be above or below the averages.
Generation and weight of your Pomsky
The generation of your Pomsky can also play a role and influence its size. A first-generation Pomsky is the offspring of two Husky and Pomeranian parents and will therefore fall within the weight and size averages mentioned above.
Things get more complicated for second and third generation Pomskies, called F2 and F3. Many prospective owners mistakenly believe that as we progress in the generations, the Pomsky will become smaller in size. However, this is not necessarily true, as it depends on the bloodlines and the selection made by the breeder. For example, if the breeder chooses to keep large F1 Pomskies that fall within the higher weight averages, then the F2 puppies may also reach weights around 14 kg.
It is therefore important to inquire about the weight of the parents and the selection made by the breeder. Not everyone necessarily wants a 3 kg Pomsky. In fact, the beauty and value of a Pomsky do not depend on its size.
